A tumultuous week on the ITV soap saw Adam (played by Adam Thomas) take the rap for his mother Moira Dingle (Natalie J. Robb), who had confessed to killing the psychotic Emma Barton (Gillian Kearney) during emotional scenes with her ex husband Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley).
Yet tonight showed an unsatisfied Victoria (Isabel Hodgins) deciding to get the real story from her partner once and for all, unable to reconcile the fact he’d had such a sudden change of heart.
Determined to discover the truth and insisting that she knew her husband “wasn’t some cold blooded killer,” Victoria couldn’t let him go without a fight.
Beginning to sob, Victoria begged: “Look me in the eye, and tell me the truth just this once.”
“Look I killed Emma,” he replied bluntly. “I didn’t mean to do it, it was an accident.”
Victoria pleaded: “So what changed, why confess to the police?”
“Because I saw Pete [Anthony Quinlan] and Ross [Michael Parr] in bits,” a weary Adam answered. “When I tried to set Ross up it was too much. I had to tell the truth.”
Viewers are aware that the 29-year-old actor’s departure from the soap is imminent, as he revealed earlier this summer he’ll be moving on to other projects next year.
Finally putting the nail in the coffin of his longtime on-off relationship, could Adam’s warning show that bosses are tying up all the character’s loose ends and opening doors for Victoria’s potential future storylines?
“You know how sorry I am but what’s done is done now, there’s no going back. You’ve got the rest of your life to live. Please don’t waste it on me,” he said finally.
As the pair struggled to hold it together, Adam added cryptically: “Just do me a favour will you, tell my mum I’m fine. Tell her I’ve got this. I’m sorry I let you down.”
