In addition to celebrating Homecoming Week, Mount Marty College (MMC) will also celebrate Feb. 10 as St. Scholastica’s feast day.
St. Scholastica is the twin sister of St. Benedict and the namesake of the Scholastica Learning Center on the MMC campus.
On Tuesday, Feb. 6, the Mission Committee held a special Mass in remembrance of St. Scholastica.
In addition to the Mass, MMC will honor St. Scholastica through a soap drive that will benefit Pathways Shelter for the Homeless. The Mission Committee is inviting donations of "Dove" soap products in honor of St. Scholastica, including bar soaps, shower gels, shampoos, etc.
The choice of Dove soap products comes from St. Benedict claiming to have seen his sister’s soul ascending into heaven in the form of a dove.
The drop-off site will be next to the MMC library statue of St. Scholastica located outside of the library. Donations will be accepted through Saturday, Feb. 10 at the homecoming basketball games in Cimpl Arena.
