Soap Lake builds new playground with help of volunteers - iFIBER One News

SOAP LAKE - The City of Soap Lake is building a new playground and soccer field with the help of many volunteers and the Paul Lauzier Foundation.

The city founded a parks and recreation team spearheaded by committee member Cindy Ray.

“Primarily, I have to thank the Paul Lauzier Foundation. They’ve given us almost three-quarters of the funding we needed to do all of this work and we’ve raised some money also from the Columbia Basin Foundation, the Grant County Conservation District helped us with the drip system and the trees, ” said Ray.

The parks and recreation group had two volunteer days Friday and Saturday. Students from Soap Lake High School and Sunrise Group Home came out to lend helping hands early Saturday morning.

Renovations have been going on for about a year to create a swing set and playground with wood fiber underneath, a functioning bathroom and soccer field.

The goal was to have the park done Saturday but they will need a little more time to put on the finishing touches. They hope to have the park ready for local children to play next week.

The location of the new park is on Third Avenue Southeast and Elder Street South.
