Reagan Pearson was the winner of Saturday’s race that paves the way to the national competition next summer.
Chairwoman Linda Ramsey said the organization started with three racers in 2009.
“This is a really good opportunity for the children,” Ramsey said. “It’s a great opportunity for special needs kids and many who don’t have the opportunity to complete in other sports.”
Each Super Kid is partnered to ride in custom made two-man car with an experienced driver for a chance to race at the Akron, Ohio World Championships in July.
Some of those driving for the Super Kids were Pennyrile Soap Box Derby racers Lukas Ramey, Morgan Buntin, Connor Bledsoe, Landen Watson and Bruce Gilbert.
The racing category concept was initiated 1982 by Vietnam veteran Dave Mitan, and adopted by the All-American Soap Box Derby as part of the Pennyrile Soap Box Derby race program.
The Super Kids race was first held in conjunction with Kidzpalooza, but then moved to the Baldwin Drive Track in October 2015. The following year, Hopkins County Board of Realtors joined the operation of the event under the direction of Ramsey, and the realtor volunteers work to make the annual race a success.
