'SOAP' youth outreach program receives funding to re-open - webcenter11

Fairbanks Native Association Behavioral Health has announced it has received funding to continue operations of the Street Outreach & Advocacy, or "SOAP" program, dedicated to protecting high risk youth.

'Fairbanks Counseling and Adoption' was the original operator of the program, but they had to close their doors in June.

'SOAP' is back open, and focuses on reaching out to 10 to 21-year-olds who are homeless, may be at risk of becoming homeless, or who have run away.

The FNA Director of Behavior Health, Perry Ahsogeak says SOAP fits in with FNA's youth prevention program.

"It's the street outreach advocacy program working with youth in the community, that may be homeless, that need resources to try to find housing, education, jobs, anything. Clothing, food, we feed them on a daily basis in case they don't have access to food, and we send home bags of food for them to have a meal that evening."
