Twins fail to make clean getaway after Jersey Shore soap theft ... - Newsworks.org

Police say twin brothers failed to make a clean getaway after stealing 180 bars of soap from a supermarket at the Jersey Shore.

Absecon police say Kenny and Lenny Stewart placed thirty 6-packs of Dove soap into a large bag at ShopRite and bolted for an exit with employees in pursuit Friday.

The twins were knocked down when they ran into a trash can.

"The key to dodging that trash can would have been a little communication between the two. With Kenny on one handle of the bag and Lenny on the other, it became imperative they pick the same side of the trash can to navigate around. They didn't," police wrote in a humorous news release on Facebook.

Police say they got on their feet only to end up back down on the ground after running into a shopping cart.

"The cart, not wanting to be outdone by the can, reintroduced both Kenny and Lenny to the hard packed pavement. Alleged stealing can be hard like pavement," police added.

And as they turned a corner, "with freedom in sight and the aromatic lilac musk of dove soap permeating the December chill," authorities said, the twins came face to face with a police officer who was investigating an accident in the parking lot.

"How serendipitous," the release said.

The Atlantic City residents are charged with shoplifting.

It's not known if they have lawyers.
