Soap opera ends with Power Point slides - Bangkok Post

A screen capture of part of the criticised final episode of the incomplete "Banlang Hong" soap opera, aired on Monday night.

Viewers of the soap opera "Banlang Hong" on Channel 7 were left disappointed on Monday night when the series ended abruptly and unfinished, with essentially a slide show pointing to the conclusion.

Viewers took to social media to express their dissatisfaction.

The series, which had the English title "Behind the Throne", was produced by Saman Karnlakorn, which is owned by actor-turned-producer Saranyu Wongkrachang.

The soap featured a girl who was abandoned by her rich family because of her gender, while the parents kept her twin brother. She later found out about her family and vowed to do everything possible to regain her right to the family business.

The first episode was aired on Sept 30, but the series was suspended in deference to the passing of King Bhumibol Adulyadej. The series resumed after the government allowed the resumption of entertainment content in November.

Saman Karnlakorn issued a lengthy statement on Wednesday explaining the decision to so abruptly end the story.

It said Channel 7 obtained the rights to produce "Banlang Hong" and commissioned the company to produce it in cooperation with the channel.

The producer had completed filming around 60% of the story when it went on air. The closing date for the series was set while it was still being edited for airing.

Saman Karnlakorn said the ratings were good for a few episodes, but later did not meet the expectations of the channel. It had tried to speed up production and finally found that the soap would be two episodes longer than was agreed. After negotiating with the channel, the company was allowed to air one more episode, but that was still not enough to make a good ending.

It said the company had to end the story without shooting the final episode as the channel insisted the series must end last Monday, based on the ratings. So they were forced to wrap it up the way they did, without the planned final episode.
