A nine-year-old girl, struggling with epilepsy, launched her first small business in Pulaski.

Emily Dupree opened Emily’s Happy Kids Goat Soap and Gift Shop over the weekend selling homemade soaps created from goat’s milk.

Emily tells NewsChannel 9 she first learned how to make the soap in the Spring with a friend afterschool and fell in love with the pastime.

That’s when she asked her mom if she could start her own business.

In just about two months, the Dupree family purchased goats, built Emily her own shop on their property and got the soap making process down pat.

The entire process takes two hours to make and then two days to solidify to be sold.

“Every day before dinner I’ll use it,” admitted Emily. “Sometimes we run out and I tell mommy that we have to make more because I want to use some more.”

Roseangela Dupree, Emily’s mom, says the new business is therapeutic for her daughter and washes away concerns of epilepsy.

“Her seizures are being controlled by medicine and they are getting better,” said Roseangela. “I love that my nine-year-old daughter is walking through the grocery store handing out business cards you know come see my shop.”

The soaps come in all different shapes and sizes and range in price from as little as .25 cents to $6.

There’s no website up yet for the newly opened business, but anyone interested in buying some of Emily’s soaps can visit her store at:

221 Orton Road
Pulaski, New York
