EastEnders spoilers Patrick Bergin's first soap scenes as Aidan ... - Express.co.uk

The 66-year-old Irish actor will play an "old-school villain" as he joins the BBC soap in the run-up to the Christmas special. 

In his first scene, Mick Carter (played by Danny Dyer) will invite Aidan inside The Queen Vic pub to help him out after spotting him being mugged.

As the pair become acquainted, Mick will open up about his financial woes leading Aidan to hint at his own shady past.

Intrigued by his presence, Mick is quick to ask more which gives Aidan an idea - but are Aidan’s intentions all that they seem?

As a prison friend of Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden), Aidan is set to cause fireworks as he will eventually clash with pub-landlord Mick.

Patrick has spoken out about his upcoming role, saying he was "delighted" to join the soap he has "watched and admired". 

He said: "It is an iconic show that has the ability to shape the way people think, whilst also telling big explosive stories that keep the audience gripped.

"I am really looking forward to seeing what they have in store for Aidan as it's bound to be dramatic."

The soap's boss, John Yorke, described the casting as "a privilege", saying: "[It is a] huge honour to have him on board. 

"EastEnders deserves the very best, and in Patrick we are absolutely privileged to have a truly great actor join the show."

EastEnders continues tomorrow night on BBC One at 8pm.
