Unusual substance discovered in soap dispensers at Detroit... - WDIV Detroit

ROMULUS, Mich. - Crews at Detroit Metro Airport are pulling out soap dispensers in the bathrooms after what they call an "unusual substance" was found in the soap at several locations.

The exact substance hasn't been definitely identified because testing hasn't been done, but sources told Local 4 it's no cause for panic, but very disgusting.

Sources told Local 4 only some of the bathrooms at the North Terminal were affected, and none in the McNamara Terminal. It has spurred the airport to pull out the current dispensers and replace them with something tamper-proof.

Our public safety department is investigating an unusual substance found in a few of our soap dispensers last week," DTW said in a statement.

The unusual substance isn't being tested because sources said it was pretty apparent what the substance was. They said it was likely a bodily fluid, but it hasn't been confirmed because testing hasn't been done. Officials said it's not believed to be spit.

Why would anybody put something in an airport soap dispenser? Investigators said it's nothing sinister, but someone with ongoing access to the restrooms who has a grudge.

Since the substance was found, the airport is in the process of taking out all the soap dispensers and replacing them.

"The Airport Authority takes incidents involving health and safety very seriously," officials said in a statement.
