Free child car seat check-up events coming to Mattawa, Soap Lake - iFIBER One News

MATTAWA – Child car seat check-up events are coming to Mattawa and Soap Lake this month.

The Central Basin Traffic Safety Task Force and Grant County Health District are sponsoring the two events, with the first in Mattawa on Wednesday from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at City Hall, located at 521 Government Road E.

The second check-up is on Wednesday, Sept. 27 from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Soap Lake City Hall, located at 239 Second Ave. SE.

Participants can learn how to property install a car seat or booster seat by certified technicians. Car seat inspections are also offered to know if a car seat needs to be replaced or upgraded.

According to the organization Safe Kids, 73 percent of car seats are not used or installed correctly.

Washington child restraint laws

  • Children under 13 must travel in the back seat when practical
  • All car seats and booster seats must be used correctly according to the car seat and vehicle manufacturer’s instructions
  • Children who are under 8 or under 4-foot-9 are required to remain in a child restraint
