As a mother, she just wanted to relieve her son's eczema.
"It was embarrassing growing up with it," admitted Zak Kerber.
When Sue discovered the healing properties of hemp in a lotion, she began experimenting with other essential oils and started creating soaps.
The Kerber family sold at farmers markets but when Whole Foods picked up their line of soaps and lotions, they needed to produce at a much faster rate than just cooking it for eight hours on the stove.
"Then there's cold process which you're putting it all together and letting it sit out for six weeks and letting it cure into soap," explained Max Kerber, Rad Soap Co. co-founder.
They combined the two, creating a secret scientific process that cuts their soap production time to just 15 minutes while also maintaining the integrity of their ingredients.
"Usually when caustic sodas hit essential oils they have flash points and it will burn off scent, so we have created a process where our essential oil when dunked into soap is never effected," explained Max Kerber.

"We call the whole team that works here the 'Rad Family' and then the 'Radsters' are our fans, so we really try to bring quality to all of our products," admitted Zak Kerber.
Seven years later and the company has opened a flagship store at Stuyvesant Plaza that helps them turn inventory 36 times a year.
"Mothers can relate to me and their kids I think that's why the company is doing so well," explained Sue Kerber.
