Desperate Housewives creator Marc Cherry is back at ABC with a new hourlong series project toplined country star Reba McEntire, in her return to TV series and to ABC. Written by Cherry, the untitled project has received a script commitment plus penalty in a competitive situation.
Described as a Southern Gothic soap opera, the show is set in motion after a horrible, suspected act of terrorism happens at a 4th of July parade in the small town of Oxblood, Kentucky. The FBI sends a cocky agent of Middle Eastern descent to investigate. He teams up with the mercurial local Sheriff (McEntire) to uncover secrets far darker than either could have ever imagined.
In addition to writing, Cherry will serve as showrunner on the ABC Studios series, which he executive produces with Sabrina Wind via their own Cherry-Wind Productions, McEntire, as well as Mindy Schultheis and Michael Hanel of Acme Productions. Shultheis and Hanel are long-time McEntire collaborators and served as executive producers on her previous TV series, the WB comedy Reba and ABC/ABC Studios comedy Malibu Country.
Besides the ABC Studios-produced Desperate Housewives, one of ABC’s biggest hits of the past decade, Cherry also created the studio’s dramedy Devious Maids, which just wrapped a successful run on Lifetime. He is repped by Paradigm and attorney Jon Moonves. Wind is repped by Paradigm and attorney Michael Gendler. Acme and McEntire are repped by attorney Jim Jackoway. McEntire is also repped by WME.
