See new Outlander star in sexy Australian soap - Entertainment Weekly

Long before he was cast in Outlander as Lord John Grey, David Berry was starring in another addictive period drama. Now U.S. audiences can see the Aussie at work: Acorn TV is about to begin airing A Place Called Home, an Australian sudser that stars Berry as the gay son of a wealthy family in post-World War II Australia.

Nicknamed an Aussie Downton Abbey, the series follows nurse Sarah Adams (Marta Dusseldorp) as she becomes involved in the affairs of the wealthy Bligh family. In the first three seasons, Berry’s character James Bligh struggled with his sexuality before finally coming to a place of resolution. (See above clip). The show has dealt with themes such as anti-semitism, sexuality, and social class.

Season 4 debuts on Thanksgiving Day. All previous seasons of A Place Called Home are available on Acorn TV, a premier streaming service for international TV shows from RLJ Entertainment.

In August, Starz announced that Berry would play Lord John Grey in the third season of Outlander that’s currently in production in Scotland. Grey is a former British soldier-turned-Ardsmuir Prison governor who strikes up a dubious friendship with the incarcerated Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan). The third season of Outlander will be based on Voyager, the third novel in Diana Gabaldon’s best-selling series that was published in 1993.
