Mobile home, garage destroyed by fire early Wednesday morning in Soap Lake - iFIBER One News

SOAP LAKE – A fire destroyed a mobile home and detached garage early Wednesday morning in Soap Lake.

Firefighters responded at about 1:30 a.m. to a structure fire in the 300 block of Elder Street South to find a single-wide mobile home and detached garage on fire, according to Grant County Fire District 7 Chief Kirk Sheppard.

Both the home and garage were a total loss. The fire also damaged a shed on the neighboring property.

Nobody was injured.

Longtime Soap Lake resident George Waters, a former assistant chief with the Soap Lake Fire Department, was asleep in the mobile home at the time of the fire. He told firefighters his dog woke him up and he was able to escape out the front door, Sheppard said.

The fire reportedly started in the living room. The cause of the blaze is under investigation.

The Ephrata Fire Department provided mutual aid.

A GoFundMe account has been set up to help Waters with expenses. More than $1,600 was already raised by Wednesday afternoon.
