In today’s TV news roundup, John Stamos is creating a TV show about the world of daytime soaps in the 1980s, “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend” is casting a new recurring role, and “Rob & Chyna” is ratings gold for E!.
DEVELOPMENT
John Stamos is teaming up with producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron (“The Wiz Live!”) for a drama series exploring daytime soaps in the 1980s. Stamos, who starred on the soap opera “General Hospital” from 1982 to 1986, will executive produce alongside Zadan and Meron through their company Storyline Entertainment. Storyline’s producer Mark Nicholson will produce the show and is in the process of looking for a writer.
CASTING
“Crazy Ex-Girlfriend” has tapped Scott Michael Foster for a major recurring role on Season 2. TVLine first reported that Foster will play Nathaniel, a love interest and lawyer from a prominent family who will change the life of Rebecca Bunch (Rachel Bloom) and the people surrounding her. Foster could possibly land a spot in Season 3 if the series gets a renewal. “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend” will return with its sophomore season on Oct. 21.
RATINGS
E!‘s premiere of the docu-series “Rob & Chyna” it the highest-rated unscripted series launch of the year among adults 18-34, women 18-34, and women 18-49. The “Keeping Up With the Kardashian” spinoff, following the life of Rob Kardashian and his fiancĂ© Blac Chyna, reeled in 2.7 million total viewers. Thanks to the Sep. 11 series premiere, this is the second year in a row that the network has delivered cable’s biggest unscripted series debut (following the 2015 launch of “I Am Cait”).
