ABC Picks Up 'Splashy' Condé Nast Fashion Soap - Jezebel - Jezebel

The gods at the House of Wintour have ordained a television series that’s being pegged as a fashion soap, currently in development.

ABC picked up the series, via Condé Nast Entertainment and 20th Century Fox TV, via what television people label “a script commitment with significant penalty.” Variety describes the show as “a splashy, edgy soap set in the upscale world of fashion,” starring an aspiring designer “whose rising star makes it more difficult to escape his inner demons.” FASHION. DRAMA. LOVE. JUDGMENT.

“Icon” hails from journalist and writer Anne Marie O’Connor, who will serve as executive producer with Dawn Ostroff, Jon Koa, and Sanaa Hamri, who is also on board to direct the pilot, should it be picked up.

Hamri is well-versed in the splashy word [sic] of fashion, being an executive producer and director on Fox’s “Empire,” also hailing from 20th.

Does the thought of an Empire-like fashion show not make you want to vomit rainbows in a good way? It’s Project Runway minus the challenges and subtract everybody except that one shady designer who smiles at everyone’s looks in the workroom and then talks shit in his confessional.

Variety reports that ABC has been specifically interested in developing a fashion series (and because shows about working at a magazine are always endlessly interesting). The network’s worked on projects that have yet to come to fruition, including Felicity Huffman’s dark comedy House of Moore and the Ford Models-based show Model Woman.
